Doff Your Cap to Autumn

From earliest memory, I was a "hat girl". I would try them on at family gatherings, in every department store, at every single opportunity. Even if the style was not something I'd choose to wear anywhere besides at Grammie's house or in a stage production, I loved them. Still do. Only now I don't need a special occasion or cold weather to break them out.

I always dreamed, though never expected to be spending part of every day in the costume shop, I get to satisfy that craving to be silly or dramatic or sultry. And even when I go on hat binges (believe me, they're real as you will witness further along in this blog) it would take me ages to get tired of it. My mother always said I had a head for hats, and she was right. We ALL have a head for them.

If I had to make a guess, The Belrose probably houses over 500 hats. Everything from dapper top hats, cloche, pill box, fascinators, fedoras, wizards, kings, pirates, pork pies and refined ladies' wear all represented. Personally, I favor any hat I can tip at a jaunty angle, but a bicorn suits my playful moods. The top hats are in highest demand, in part because they were relevant for such a large part of our recent history. We also have loads of shapes colors and sizes on offer just in toppers alone.

just a sample of what we have to offer

I honestly believe that any event is worth wearing a hat for. They're fashionable, size inclusive and a way create a sense of mystery about yourself. Going to brunch with friends? Invite everyone to wear a tricorn! Farmers' Market? wide brimmed flowery concoction. It's an easy way to elevate a day out into something memorable. Costumes are great for those big events, but something cheeky in your everyday life does wonders for sprinkling some fun into the mundane.

Take it from me. A weekday afternoon is an adventure.

I realize I might have a problem. But can you blame me?

If you're in town, and you happen by the "pink church" come in and see what we have to offer for your next day out. The showgirl head dress might be too much for a picnic, but if you're anything like me, you'll find a way to work it in there somewhere!
